On-Line Ads peaking in the US?
Lost Remote notes that the NY Times, who owns 30 websites like nytimes.com, boston.com and about.com, saw an impressive 21.4 percent increase in online ad sales in the last year. But the growth in online ad sales is down slightly from year-ago growth rates, when the NYTimes reported 26.9 percent growth. The strongest growth for their online division comes from about.com, where sales were up 32.6 percent to $7.4 million. The company cites display ads increased “primarily because of strength in the Internet, pharmaceutical and technology categories.” The interesting thing about these growth numbers is how they seem to prove the Borrell report that came out just 2 weeks ago and forecast slowing online ad sales growth. These sorts of revenues don't seem to be much compared with traditional radio and TV.
