I understand why you might want to pay for listening to a comedy series from the BBC back-catalogue on the US audiobook service,
www.audible.com. But why would you pay 9 bucks a month to download a podcast of their NewsHour programme, free on the BBC's own site? May be its a ghost that someone forgot?

But why pay for something that public radio in the US might give you free..course by the time you hear it, it's old old news. And you have to sit thru pledge weeks but pay for it..no
It seems to be that audible is offering a podcast of Newshour. bbcworldservice.com does not offer a podcast, only "listen again" from the website, which is something slightly different.
For me, it's like the difference between being able to read the newspaper in the library or buying a copy of the newspaper and taking it home to read.
