This giant purple box is still generating graphics at TV-2, but not for much longer. These computers were great in their day for generating captions and graphics for TV stations - now the PC is faster. At least Silicon Graphics had a distinctive style for the box - and a colour too.

I used to adminster one of these boxes, it runs on IRIX a variation of Unix.
At the time these were introduced in 97 they were state of the art. They are boat anchors now.
