I wonder if there is a little joke burned into the name of the band "The Common Linnets". The Dutch entry in the Eurovision song contest (who ended in second place) did answer a viewers question. But did they tell the whole story?
The wikipedia entry says a little more: The common linnet (Carduelis cannabina) is a small passerine bird of the finch family, Fringillidae. It derives its scientific name from its fondness for hemp and its English name from its liking for seeds of flax, from which linen is made.
As for the song, it certainly reminds me of the Every Breath You Take from the Police. Same backing track?
