Hankering after a soldering iron
Great documentary about the history of electronic music - the faces seem terribly familiar. Seems like yesterday. They were operating on the fringes of what performers and composers defined as "music". Would not have happened without the development of recording tape. You couldn't edit discs. BBC was rather slow off the mark in creating their Radiophonic Workshop in 1957 - though once it existed it came up with some great compositions. Remember there was a VCS3 lying around in the Music department of Durham University at the end of the 1970's. Got to play with it for a while.
This is an interesting film, although some of the footage of Hawkwind and the 60's might raise an eyebrow to anyone passing your computer whilst you watch this!
ReplyDeleteIt's interesting in an age where most professional audio environments have left tape behind to wonder what will come along to make digital editing seem as retro.
