Seats still available...
No wonder there are "free" chairs at the coffee shops on St Mark's square, even when the place is crammed with thousands of tourists. A beer will cost you 10 Euro, a cocktail 15-20 Euros. Don't even think about the lunch menu.
This is actually silly because the prices are so outrageous the cafe is never full. Some colleagues and I sat down and asked the Russian waitress what the prices were. She said she couldn't remember. But the memory cleared when we got up to leave. In the evening, competing orchestras at the cafe's mean that sitting on St Mark's square in Venice is like listening to an old shortwave radio, with songs from nearby stations competing for your attention.
