Radio Tanzania Tape Project

One of the more unusual Kickstarter projects to digitize the unique music collection sitting in the archives of Radio Tanzania.

There was an NPR piece about the project, though I notice in the video that not all the material is recorded on material donated by the BBC as the item claims. I'm guessing this library was built on tapes that were used transcription tapes. I think Deutsche Welle tape (which was always better grade BASF tape I recall) has been re-used as well. That was actually part of the plan. Western stations sent their topical programmes to stations on tape, knowing that the tape was recycled. That free tape supply dried up in the 90's when CD's arrived.
